Previous Name: Theodore "Laurie" Laurence
Myth: Little Women
Past Life Information: Laurie's life began entrenched in scandal—his uppercrust father fell in love with an Italian pianist and eloped, and was promptly disinherited by his own dad. Nevertheless, after being orphaned, Laurie was taken in by his grandfather and given a very cushy, privileged life in Massachusetts, groomed to become a Harvard man.
More interesting to Laurie, though, were his friends the March girls, who lived next door. Jo was his particular friend, kindred spirits in a lot of ways, but once they were adults she still turned down his marriage proposal. No matter, he just married her baby sister, Amy, instead. They went on to have one daughter, Bess, who they promptly shipped off to school.
Current Name: Amar Lal
Age: 31
Occupation: Assistant anthropology professor at Tulane
Personality: Amar is a glass-half-full kind of person, someone who goes about his day with a spring in his step and a jaunty whistle on his lips. This can be kind of disturbing, considering he can often be found in a lab cheerfully piecing human bones back together, but hey, he's doing what he loves, okay? He's not one to dwell on the bad stuff. While he's a fun, supportive friend, tougher issues and deep, deep thoughts make him a little more uncomfortable and hesitant, but he'll still try. Overall, he's pretty good to just go with the flow.
Background: Amar is the third child and second son of first-generation immigrants from India, but was born in Boston himself. Pretty much since the moment he was born he's been scheming out a way to escape the miserable cold of Massachusetts, but he did attend Harvard first, dutifully fulfilling his parents' educational ambition for him.
After undergrad years, though, Amar fled to New Orleans to complete his education, reveling in the warmth and culture and freedom from his attentive parents (though he definitely didn't mind a little financial help from them). He was thrilled to join the anthropology department this year after completing his PhD (focusing on forensic anthropology), which means he's spending more time teaching intro courses than in the lab, but that's okay. It's kind of fun, hanging out with the kids.
